Raven Knob 2007

Raven Knob 2007 #3

Troop 1131:

Another great day at camp! At noon, almost all of our New Scouts and many older scouts and leaders hike to the Knob. I have attached a picture of some of the boys on the rock out cropping.

The pizza's were excellent last night; James and Randy and Grayson did a terrific job of organizing the event. Matt Wolfe, one of our scouts on staff at the waterfront joined us for Pizza, and to discuss plans for Earning Eagle.

Our scouts seemed to have a little more energy in the campsite last evening, must be something in the water. However, despite running around and playing frisbee, we had a nice campfire and a lot of fun.

More serious activities yesterday included advancement for five scouts. Andrew Green, our newest member advanced to Scout. Neil Watson, Chris Sevier, and Floyd Baker advanced to Second Class. And Nick Marteney advanced to Second Class and First Class. Mike Tiffany, George Riley, Jeff Watson and Bruce Summers have been giving boys Boards of Review. Mike will be bringing handbooks back to have the advancement recorded.

Several scouts completed merit badge partials: Andrew Palmer will get Camping MB, and Bryce Summers got Communications MB.

Today, the afternoon Citizenship in the Nation Class will take a field trip to Independence, VA, about an hour from camp to listen speakers at a 4th of July ceremony. George Riley and Jeff Watson went off to Pilot Mountain this morning for some serious rock climbing with the Climbing MB Class.

We are scheduled to do a conservation project after lunch today. A neighboring troop of about eleven scouts will join us in clearing debris from the ravines along the side the road to our campsite. Lunch and dinner today will be in our campsite. The camp staff will bring us cold cuts and sub-rolls for lunch, and we will have our incredible Taco Bar for dinner.

Then, this evening, we will attend the great campfire in the new OA Arena along with about a thousand people. I'm serious. The parents and guests of local scouts come out to camp this evening with dinners for their troops and they stay for the Campfire program. If the weather holds out, we expect a very special 4th of July event even without fireworks.
