Raven Knob 2008

Troop 1131, Report 3 Wednesday, 7/2/08 Yesterday was another great day at camp! At noon, many of our New Scouts and some older scouts and leaders hiked to the Knob. I have attached a picture of some of the boys on the rock out cropping, and a second image of some of our scouts taking Lifesaving merit badge. Later in the afternoon, the Troop Guides and other Junior Leaders herded the First year scouts to the showers. The pizza's in our campsite last night were excellent; Our Junior Leaders did a good job organizing the event. However, the scouts still mobbed the aluminum foil oven waiting for their pizzas to be done. We had quite a few choices for toppings that included pepperoni, summer sausage, turkey, ham and a variety of cheeses in addition to ten pounds of mozzarella. Not much was left over. While the pizza cooked we had a nice campfire during which I read stories that the scouts seemed to enjoy listening to. The boys taking Communications merit badge have planned a troop campfire program for Thursday, to complete one of their requirements. Also three boys passed Boards of Review last night: Neil Watson and Nick Marteney passed their Star board, and Joshua Baker passed his Tenderfoot board. We will prepare lunch and dinner in our campsite today. Wednesday is visitor day, and many local troops have parents bring picnic meals. The camp provides cold cuts and sub-rolls for lunch, and we will prepare our own incredible Taco Bar for dinner. Most of the scouts in our troop think it's the best meal of the week. This evening, we will attend the campfire program in the new OA Arena along with about a thousand people (scout troops and visitors). We expect a very special, even inspirational, pre-4th of July event without fireworks. Then after the traditional campfire program, the Order of the Arrow puts on a show of it own with lots of American Indian pageantry. Take care; thanks for sending email messages and "care-packages" to your sons; they really enjoy getting these. Philip Sternberg Scoutmaster, T-1131 |
